30 paintings in 30 days

I set myself the task of completing 30 paintings in 30 days from march 1-30 2008 and this blog is a blow by blow account of that process. at the end of the 30 days i got a bunch of volunteers together to take the work to the streets.

the 30 paintings were unveiled at art melbourne 08 in april. if you still want your piece of the jigsaw, you'll get your chance at art sydney 08 october 24-26.

have fun reading through my blog and feel free to comment or ask questions.

day 14 - competition time fun time

i'm too busy painting at the moment to think up something sufficiently impressive, so get your imagination working and try to think up a name (or names) for my paintings. i'm going to pick my favourite title and announce the winner on march 30.

if you've got a good idea (or any ideas at all) send an email here with your suggested title, your name and contact number. your personal information will not be given to anyone else, i just need to be able to contact you if you win so i can give you your prize.

oh yeah, the prize. the winner will receive an original dirtfish painting. the painting measures 410 mm across and 760 mm high and is on high quality italian canvas stretched over a vic ash frame. we will mail it to you wherever you are - melbourne, interstate or overseas.

i can't wait to see what you think up

I'm having fun.

as you can see I have decided to paint a 3m section at a time, adding a panel on one end and dropping one off from the other. it's like painting one of those backgrounds for a running man theatre skit

day 13 - hello colour

I have set up the 1st 4 paintings in the studio this morning (all that will fit) and am starting to bring this work together with a bit of colour.

i'll post some images of my progress later toady

day 12 - no post today

sorry i missed day 12 check out this post to see what i've been up to.

day 11 - this is my problem

don't get me wrong everything with this artwork is coming along swimmingly, i'm having more of a creative dilemma. to focus on the big picture or the individual painting. ultimately it needs to work for both and the way i have been dealing with this is to work it 1st as a large mural and then add extra bits to the individual canvases that appear to be lacking. this technique however opens me up to having one dominant over the other. so what do i do?

to add an extra level of complexity i'm running out of room my work space is 3m x 3m. this also means that it is hard for me to get back far enough to get perspective on the artwork as a whole. what do i do?
